He is the archangel in charge of protection, order and strength.

For Christians, he is the protector of the Church and advocate of God's chosen people. The Catholic Church considers him the patron and protector of the universal Church. The Coptic Church considers him the first of the seven archangels, along with Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel. For Jehovah's Witnesses, Michael was incarnated as Jesus Christ.​

Michael is in charge of frustrating Lucifer or Satan, one of the fallen angels.5​ (Revelation 12:7). For this reason, in art he is represented as an angel in the armor of a Roman general, threatening a demon or dragon with a spear or sword. He is also usually represented weighing souls on the scales, since according to tradition, he would take part in the Final Judgment.
